Ajman’s thriving and competitive economy traces its roots to the Department of Economic Development (DED), originally part of the Municipality and Planning Department, before becoming an independent authority in 2011. That year, H.H. Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Ruler of Ajman and Member of the UAE Supreme Council, issued Emiri Decree No. (1) to reorganize the DED. The goal: foster sustainable economic growth, create a fair investment landscape, and provide comprehensive insights into the emirate’s economic activities and opportunities.

In 2015, a new Amiri Decree (No. 1) further enhanced economic planning to keep pace with the dynamic global economy. The initiative focused on building a diversified, integrated, and sustainable economy capable of adopting innovative models that support Ajman’s long-term development.

Today, the DED plays a pivotal role in shaping economic policies, promoting green economy programs, and activating the local business sector to ensure Ajman remains a hub for investment, innovation, and sustainable growth.
